To: Black Lives Matter, Congressional Black Caucus, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and all the members of the African American communities in the US
We share your pain. We share your sorrow. Our people, the Roma, are brutalized and terrorized in the same way here in Europe. Just as police in Minneapolis killed George Floyd, officers in the Czech Republic killed a Roma man, Miroslav Demeter, four years ago. He was 27 years old, and his killing went unpunished.
Today, we stand with you in the global struggle against injustice, racialized oppression, institutional racism, and police brutality. We are united in fighting the racist systems of power that have oppressed our people for centuries.
We share your determination for freedom and justice. We are standing up against racists, white supremacists, neo-Nazis, the far right, and authoritarians in every way we can.
We march by your side in the fight for a brighter future for our children—in hope of peaceful, antiracist and inclusive societies built on mutual respect, justice, equality, and love.
Your struggle is our struggle.
